The Sound Of Sinden

Earlier this year, we released a sample pack by one of the most innovative and up-to-the-minute producers in dance music, Sinden. It’s titled ‘The Sound Of Sinden‘, and it features over 290MB of bass, drum, synth and FX. Let’s take a closer look….

SINDENIf you don’t know who Sinden is then we’d politely suggest you haven’t really been paying attention. But for the uninitiated, he has quietly been one of the most influential people in dance music over the last 7 or 8 years. His initial efforts with Switch (as Solid Groove) lit a fuse when ‘Red Hot’ became one of the biggest underground house tunes of 2006, combining a breaksy hip-hop sensibility with hefty basslines and swanging percussion. It kicked off a remarkable run of singles and remixes, both solo and with Herve, which left him sitting pretty by about 2008 as one of the biggest names in dance music. He used his status to bring all sorts of new sounds to the table; he was one of the main players in dropping worldwide sounds like Baltimore, Baile Funk and Kwaito into UK bass music sets.

From there, the sky was the limit. He started a weekly show on Kiss FM, which is still going now, and if you haven’t checked it out then it’s highly recommended; one of the places to go to hear the absolute cutting edge of what’s hot in hip-hop, house, garage and techno.
SindenHe then fired up Grizzly Recordings, using his keen ear for what’s hot to discover a then-unknown producer by the name of SBTRKT, and they collaborated to come up with the label’s first release. Not a bad start for a new label. After this he was recruited by Mad Decent as the producer for the new Gucci Mane mixtape (Free Gucci 2), and working with such a huge name cemented his status as someone who had moved from the dance music underground to the big time. A move to LA quickly followed and Sinden started producing for Mykki Blanco, one of the fastest-rising rappers in the game.

So, that’s his credentials pretty well established then. But what of the actual sample pack itself? Well, as you’d expect, they are right on the pulse of bass music in 2013; house and techno sounds with enough weight for any dancefloor. Featuring over 290MB of sounds, they’ve got an emphasis on the percussive aspects, but that’s not the only side; there are also dozens of synths, basslines, sound effects and glitched up loops.

The sounds are arranged into drum loops and single hits, and unusually you get loads of loops of particular sounds – snare loops, glitch percussion loops, and so on, plus full drum loops. There’s also a very handy folder of drum rolls, which are short fills (around two bars each) that you can just drop straight in to create some detail and interest. Everything is between 117BPM and 130BPM, and there are also over 50 bass, synth and FX loops.

So if your thing is all about the current techno and house bass-zeitgeist, as pushed forwards by the likes of Breach, South London Ordnance and My Nu Leng, you’ll find this sample pack bang on trend. But if you just want to be writing great house music, then this pack has all the inspiration and the ingredients you need to get moving.
